Aelzeran's Tear

Description

"Let this gift light your darkest days, my child.  Let it show you the path you were destined to follow, to embrace."

-- Aelzeran

Ashekara's most cherished possession.  Long ago, when she was but a child being groomed by her mother, the Dragonqueen Vylesindra, Ashe was drawn towards the wisdom of her father as she secretly sat attentively at the feet of the imprisoned azaeli.  From him she learnt much about the world beyond her mother's den and came to love what she despised.  Yet troubled was Aelzeran for he lamented upon the fate of his daughter and the day drew near when they would share one last time together.

It was the day Ashekara was to become a woman in her mother's eyes.

Knowing what would be expected of his daughter, Aelzeran wept.  He knew that she would fail her mother's trial and on the eve of its reckoning Ashekara approached her father with uncertainty in her eyes, not knowing the grim path that awaited her.

It is said that Aelzeran gave her a gift, simple but powerful.  No one really knows if it was in fact one of Aelzeran's tears yet Ashekara to this day believes it to be so. Yet despite the nature of its origin, this tear-shaped jewel saved Ashekara from a fate worse than death, although much of its former power, its former light, has diminished.  That was until her travels with Klaus helped reveal that the jewel acts similar to a channelling stone and can harness pure magic within its translucent confines.

Since then, Ashekara has never feared the dark, no matter what dangers lurk near.

...

Been awhile since I've drawn an item concept yet, given this plays a major role in Ashekara's life, I figured it deserved one. =P

A beautiful short story and a beautiful gem.

I love how simple and unassuming yet beautiful it looks.

Combined with the background it reminds me of a rain drop from a white cloud.
