Athame by Aikurisu Athame by Aikurisu
lol, now I know this isn’t expected, in concerns to a submission for the lovely *VyrL’s Arcea contest: [link] But I drew it anyway~! Why? … well, aside from the fact Vyrhelle is among the very few popular artists here at DA that I both respect and admire, according to her, Athamée is a weapon of great importance in Arcea and for Elwen’s destiny. [link]

Anyhoo, hope you like, Vyrhelle. ‘Tis an honour to draw for your world. =)

I want an athame like that...>.< I've been looking around on dA and Amazon to get a feel for the different types of athame people have..even if it's just a drawing, it's really quite beautiful.

Thanks. =) Btw, I was not aware what 'anthame' meant, for when I drew this I thought it was just the blade's given name by its owner. ^^;

lol, if only I could find someone who was an expert blacksmith. I'd love to see quite a few of my designs come to life. =)

Your work with weapons is really good. The way you paint them is so realistic and yet it looks like a drawing. And Arcea's Athamée is simply great. I loved it!

And congratulations for the 4th place!

Thanks! Glad you like my weapon concepts as well. =)

Still happy too with how this was received in the contest. Just one of those things that makes me feel what I create can be really worth it at times.

Don't say it like that... Your creations are great! :omg:
I've seen so rare cases of a good designer/drawer/painter of weapons in dA. Your work is really good. =D

Thank you for the compliment. =D

I really need to bring up a level with my character designs in any case. Depending on the theme they can be lacking...

I just realised that if you say your username out loud in a faux japanese accent, it sounds like a japanese person saying the name 'Kris'....and I really really slow for only now picking that up?

lol, anyway, I love this, it's a beautiful blade and the texturing on it is great. I especially love the little nicks and scratches.

lol, well actually that wasn't the intention with my name and I hadn't really thought about it in that way till now... which is cool. XD In truth I created it from putting together two Japanese words. 'Ai' which is 'love' and my family name. And 'Kurisu' stands for 'Christian' ... which was a result of both my first name and religious orientation. But now after what you've noticed with the way it can be pronounced, that just adds even more to it.

Anyhoo, glad you like the blade. =)

This is beautiful, quite possibly the most beautiful knife I've seen you make yet. I love the uneven leather wrappings on the handle, and I REALLY love the reflection and colors of the blue gems.

I really can't think of any critique to say for this piece at all.

Ditto the above comment in that it didn't look of Nelri origin. Nice work with the different style.
Gems in the hilt seem a little odd somehow for a hunting dagger, but hey =P

They are true to the design though, and I don't mind them. =)

Tempts me actually to think of similar designs for my own world. And I haven't really gone into wooden grips before, so this was a first. =P

forgive me for not commenting on this when first I saw it and took a peek...I was busily trying to finish painting something of my own ^^; I wanted to say that it immediately struck me as different than your usual style of weaponry ^^ It looks almost like a hunting knife to me somewhat simplistic, well used, and yet having a hint of mystique with the gems added in ^^; looking at the original drawing I think you did a great job emulating it! and I think it's really cool having a blade-concept as an entry to a contest! it's original, unique, and definitely YOU :D good luck hun!

You know... that's the first time I've had someone tell me that an artwork is characteristic in my way. That it's something people can identify with being from my hand. Thank you! =D

well your weaponry and armor you've designed up for the nelri and all these other weapons concepts and whatnot for your world definitely have a certain look to them, to me. I'm not sure if I could pinpoint it in exact detail but they definitely have a particular appearance compared to the blades you've done for others characters. I can still see "your hand" in it but it doesn't look exactly like the ones for your world.
