Eldar Blade Concept - II by Aikurisu Eldar Blade Concept - II by Aikurisu
For anyone who can spot the similarity, yes, this is a close likeness to the Singing Spear from Dawn of War II, which several Eldar wield. (I originally thought that the Farseer heroine was the only one who used it, till I realised that the Seer Council also use it among their numbers as a default weapon... nice.) Not my fav design from the game, but nevertheless it was an interesting one to draw... Plus I think I've learnt how to draw gems better from it; something I've been meaning to get right in a particular way for ages!

Comments and such welcome as always. To be honest, things are quite lonely here of late.

Love the Design, I would love to see your idea of a reconception of the Eldar Armor and stuff.

Hmm, well I have thought about drawing an Eldar banshee and so on. Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Very interesting style. It looks fantasy and sci-fi at the same time.

As good as ever if you ask me. Honestly, I with I had a fantasy role-playing game of my own, just so I could commission you to paint all the artifact weapons for it.

The glowing field is not so out of place if you see it from a different perspective. I see the glowing bit as a psychic charge, as the Eldar are a largely psychic race. But I'll agree with you that the Singing Spear seems a bit 'clunky' for a race as elegant as them.

*nod* I think given what the Singing Spear is for, (vehicle/structure damage, right?) then it makes sense that the blade itself has a concentrated psychic charge to give it the power it needs to make that grade. And given that a Farseer is pretty much the Eldar's finest in terms of pyschic might... yeah. Maybe the reason why the designers for this opted for a more clunkier approach was that they wanted it to look like it could cleave through a tank and so on?

Perhaps, but Banshees carve through Space Marine Terminators like wet tissue paper. And that's saying something.

Ironic, given how useless they are in DoW2's campaign ... and I truly wept inside at how they were treated like cannon fodder. The Orks and Tyranids I can understand, but the Eldar? Nein.

If only there was a version of DoW2 where the main campaign involved the Eldar and not the Imperium...

Amen to that. But the skirmishes are fun.

Indeed. I wonder how much it would take to create a few story-woven maps actually. Would be cool if the map editor allows enough freedom to do that with, because we've already got the RP elements secure, lvling-up gameplay wise.

I love eldar weapons. And this one is definitely nice, and immediatel regognizable as an eldar weapon. But I have to confess to the aesthetic that the blades are made of wraithbone or a psychically reactive crystal.

this is just me though, but the 'power fields' that typically surround imperial weapons seems really out of place on Eldar weapons.

Hmm, I know what you mean and I thought the same too, but when I was looking at the Singing Spear more closely in the game, it honestly looked like it was crafted somewhere between Imperium and Eldar technology. The textures in this are about spot on to what I saw from a reference screenshot I took, unless the lighting of the stage tricked me. I'll try taking screenshots of it on another map and see if it is just that.
