Requiem by Aikurisu Requiem by Aikurisu
Without doubt, if there is one blade in the gaming world that has left a lasting impression with me, it would be Siegfried Schtauffen’s zweihander, Requiem. Admittedly, however, it’s incarnation in SC4 isn’t as cool as it was in SC3… but then there’s a lot of things in SC4 that feel less awesome to me, compared to what they were in previous installments... Even ol' Sieg has lost a certain coolness about him too... which is sacrilege in over 108 different countries! ... including made-up ones that should exist just for this reason alone!

You're right he does lose a certain coolness...a;pt!
It was only subtle in IV, but in V they removed every essence of his character and everything i loved about his character: His battle cries and his hot-blooded-ness (making Nobuyuki Hiyama not as enjoyable), and rendered him to the quiet mentor character.... ughhh. oh and that black armor and the 3ft long cape...hideous. By far his 2p design in II and his SCIII 1P outfit are his best.

and btw, between sc3 and 4's design of requiem, its design doesn't exactly have continuity (granted, each game its design is subtly different :\ ).

This is, without a doubt, one of my favorite swords in video game history. I would love to own a replica of this thing. A very nice picture, keep up the fantastic work!! :D

Thanks. =)  And yeah, agreed.  I was glad to see it return in SC5, too, but even it wasn't enough to save that game, imo. >_>;

Unfortunately. But hey, maybe they'll do an HD port of Soul Calibur 3 if the HD Soul Calibur 2 is successful

Gah, I'd love to see that.  Requiem looked its best in SC3, too.  (Along with Sieg's armour and so on...)

I fully agree. The same goes for Nightmare and Soul Edge!

Siegfried's my favorite character in the Soul Calibur series, his stance-based fighting style is awesome!

Agreed. The stance-based styles are the best. =)

hmm, well if you like this, you'd love the Manga 'Berserk'.
The main protagonist uses a weapon that's incredibly similar to this, except it doesn't have that spade-shaped tip and also it's BIGGER THAN HE IS! XD

lol, come to think on it, I actually have that series too. But some reason I've never gotten around to watching it... yet. XD

Anime or Manga? Cos if you're looking for action from the off i suggest you stick with the Manga, but if you wanna see some character development first and save some money on the Mangas then watch the anime. :3

Nice :) just remember that it finishes where the Manga starts, so don't be suprised about the cliffhanger at the end ;P

And yeah... I still reckon the original SC1 Requiem was the best, but the one in SC3 was just as good. The wooden handle just gave it so much more style.

I've always been a fan of Siegfried; I used to drive friends crazy with the "sudden forward lunge with a sword six miles long" attack back in Soul Edge and I haven't stopped since. I really loved his look in SCIII; I thought that Requiem was an excellent successor to Faust and Gram. I'm not at all a fan of his Crystalline Gundam Mecha Knight character design in IV. At all.

Um. That aside, this is a great rendering of the weapon, very clean and intimidating.

'Crystalline Gundam Mecha Knight.' Mate, that just made my day. Kudos. XD

I'm pretty much 100% in agreeance with all you said. And glad to meet a fellow Siegfried fan since the ol' Soul Blade/Edge days. But yeah, Siegfried was definitely at his best in SCIII, which was moreorless a perfect rendition of his SC1 appearance. There was just no way in faulting him, though his SC4 incarnation... yeah. I’m not sure why Namco had to give him that crystallised armour either, as I was more prone to use other characters and learn tactics to beat the shit out of him so it would reveal his better armour underneath. *laughs* So here’s hoping in the next game he can finally rid himself of that Soul Calibur blade and return to something a bit more… normal. Otherwise, I fear the poor soul will only continue degrading into some average fangirl’s fantasy date and die in my eyes like Raphael did when he took on that bloody awful vampire motif.

So yeah... uhh... thanks for the comment and fav. =P

Call 'em like I see 'em.

Ugh. Raphael. *slaps own forehead* I resented clearing the game with him for unlockables in SCIII - my choices were Outrageously Flamboyant Pirate or A Lame Castlevania Wannabe. Fantastic design, Namco. The only things more obnoxious are the aforementioned CGMK Siegfried and Ivy's ever-expanding-breasts. With each passing game, her rack is becoming more and more ludicrous. It's gone way past the point of "risque" and is now just firmly... grotesque.

My pleasure though.

lol, Ivy's breasts have their own dedicated weather stations now. Which is a shame, for she was one of the finest character concepts in ages when she made her debut in SC1. Same goes for Raphael. He was one of the only good things about SC2, but then Namco just had to fulfil selling out their brilliant world to the cheapest marketing strategy of them all. I mean, that's how the Twilight series has succeeded, no?

Then again... having Todd McFarlane involved with SC2 was also pretty dumb. Necrud... worst SC character... ever. Even worse than those blasted ';popular artist' bonus characters in SC4... which is saying something.

Yeah, she's got more real estate on her chest than Donald Trump has in Manhattan these days.

Ugh. I'm also not even a little bit a fan of having Yoda and Darth Vader feature as Soul Calibur characters. Don't get me wrong - Vader is awesome. But just release a Star Wars lightsaber dueling game modeled on the SC engine and quit putting these bizarre bonus characters in.

lol, agreed. I for one can't stand any of Namco's attempts at bringing in characters from other universes. Like take Link and Spawn for example. Again, cheap marketting ploys... which is what I just don't understand. The original characters in the Soul series, save for Raph after SC2, have always been of great quality. Why Namco has to dumb down their roster with characters that don't fit in amongst them is pretty stupid in my books. Plus it takes a bit of the seriousness away. Seeing someone like Maxi (I do miss Li Long... ) block a lightsaber does make me question things a little...

And you know what's sad? A character like Voldo actually rocks even after all this time. He makes poor Raph look even more uninspiring.

Hahah, Siegfried has to be the original "I have a very, very big sword" character.

Soul Calibur IV was fun, no questions there. I just think it changed the original feel of Soul Calibur.

And that's the problem I see with it. The original feel was perfect. They didn't need to go and change it like the way they did in SC4. Sure the graphics are pretty 'n' all, but when you look past that the game really has no substance. Which is a shame, because all of its previous installments had it in one way or another. SC4 just feels like a cheap thrill ride at times with bigger boobs, gothic crap and story near shallow as a Dead or Alive game. That's NOT how I want to remember the series at all.

But yeah, as far as characters go with big swords, Sieg reigns well. =P

Very nice as always. Definitely a sweet-looking weapon. Though the wrapping on the hilt seems to be a bit lacking. As though unfinished. It may just be me though.

lol, well I might look into it some more, but I was aiming for something along the lines of a wooden design... so technically there is no wrapping involved. Hard to say with older illustrations of the Requiem, as the recent incarnation of it in SC4 depicts it with an undetailed metal grip.

lol, well did I forget to mention that I plan on drawing Faust too? =P

I liked the Glam as well, and I probably used it more than a lot of blades for the stats it gave. But then there's always Sir Stefan's Grimblade that Sieg yoinks back in Soul Blade... that had a great design too.
