Description

The Blade of Many Faces. Legend has it that it was forged from the soul of Xysaren the Just, birthfather of the Azaeli.

As an angel who descended upon the world of Esha at The Creator’s behest, it is understood that Xysar was the first among his brethren who unmasked Sinalazul’s treachery and, with Rothelim in his grasp, showed the true face of the deceiver and scarred his vain flesh with the blade’s holy wrath. Unfortunately, as the lore would have it, even Xysar was not made of stone and allowed Sin to live, for sake of his compassion for Yyerith. His love to her was greater than his servitude to heaven.

It was when Feniryth the Judge, Xysaren's sworn brother, had condemned Yyerith for becoming one like man; Xysar intervened as Yyerith feared and through a bitter debate of wills and what was right and wrong for their troubled world, now tainted by sin, Xysar swore pacifism against his untainted brethren and brought Rothelim between them, splitting marble and earth to seal the blade to perfect dormancy for many centuries in Estyria. No more would the legendary angel fight those tainted by Sin's hand.

Still, it would not lie in its resting place forever. Rumour has it that a soul entwined with the fates of humans and nelrikind stumbled upon it, by then enshrouded with neglect and to the will of the wild. By his reckoning, it was a voice within the blade that drew him to it and in that heartbeat the blade's original form had changed to adopt its new wielder’s memories and heart.

He was the first to claim it after Xysaren left it be, and would not be the last.

Regardless, Rothelim is a blade forged by the Light. It seeks those worthy to master it for the sake of protecting the world from those who would ally with Sin and Shadow. For it is well known that the wielder of Rothelim is a bane against sin and is likely one of the only weapons left in the mortal world that is able to rend even the flesh of Vezsena herself, the Dragonqueen. It is also a bane to those who seek to claim it for themselves without its blessing; for legend dictates that only those of pure heart and motive may grasp it without being harmed by its overwhelming power. And, even then, finding the blade after a change of wielders is nigh impossible, for its shape always changes from the former to suit its new host. And with that it is difficult to say what form Rothelim now is in in today's world. Still, it shall always be wielded by a soul who fights to save their world from sin.

Well, here’s my last work for ’08. Originally, I wanted to create something special, as I’m going to miss this year somewhat, although time got the better of me. Still, may you all have a good new year, everyone, and may it be one of fewer tribulations.
