The age of exploration has dawned upon the world of Arcadia. Brave adventurers set sail across the vast skies in search of treasures untold.
And, where there is treasure, there will be Air Pirates. . .
[link] Skies of Arcadia for the Sega Dreamcast back in 2000 was, in my humblest opinion, the greatest game ever made. There is no other that holds as many fond memories to me as it does, and it is still perhaps the most inspiring. I still listen to its soundtrack when I'm being creative with my art and writings from time to time, and if it weren’t for Vyse, Aika and Fina’s cameos in Valkyria Chronicles, I may never have bought that game and realised how much of a nod it was from Overworks to their original ‘moonstone’ gem. It also reminded me how much I longed for a sequel to SoA, but then I got to thinking: maybe SoA isn’t meant to have a sequel? It’s perfect the way it was and its ending was in essence comfort food, giving us closure to the story of a beautiful world and its people you grew so attached to that there should have been a prison sentence to bid them a final farewell. (Like in a Valuan prison cell...)
Yet would a sequel dishonour the memory of its beloved ancestor? My answer: no. This is Overworks we’re talking about. [link] Valkyria Chronicles is a sure sign that they haven’t slipped in their ability with making great games. But, compared to Arcadia, the world ValkC is set in is hardly as memorable and is almost lazy in its approach to being original. It instead draws inspiration more from anime-esque storytelling, (and blatant world war era artistic styling), and while this is not entirely a bad thing, (I love it immensely, in fact...), some might say it is almost a slap in the face to us Arcadian fans who have been waiting for almost a decade to see something truly Arcadian return. I mean, where was the anime spinoff for Skies, which I know many of us fans years ago were yearning for? ValkC got that almost in the same year of its release; not to mention cool merchandise, AND has two sequels now? It has a trilogy?!
Skies deserves all of that and then some. And it deserves more stamps here!
I swear, this is the last stamp for awhile, too. I’m getting back to my art! ... honest! XD
I too think a sequel would be great, but.... if nobody ever makes one, I'd still be sufficed with just the original game. Sequels can be such a tricky thing.... Risky.
But oh my gosh yes. So so so many fond memories of Skies of Arcadia. Best game ever.
Yes! It's ALWAYS wonderful to find a fan of SoA! Instant fave! SoA has been my all time favorite game for around 12 years now, and I've been naming myself after Vyse online for almost as long.

I DO remember being on SoAW at some point LONG ago for some reason or another, but the chances that it was me are slim. In other areas of the Internet, if you see this name it's actually most likely me. On a SoA site however, wouldn't you find people named after the characters pretty frequently? I can just imagine that that's the case.
