Description

“Hmph. I never could understand why you keep that thing. Not that I’m against pretty little things... but still.”

“That ‘thing’ is a sacred symbol to my people, Si. And they, like yours, never take the origins of their existence lightly.”

-- Sinaa and Kaden

By the age of space exploration for the collective inhabitants of Esha, the nelri were often known as the first race to travel beyond the Seven Spheres of Man. Yet what many historians overlook is the evidence supporting that the eminent ancient starship, the ‘Vessel of Faith’, was not a vessel completely crewed by their hands. In truth, a generous portion of the souls onboard it were of mixed blood to them and humanity, who hailed from a proud nation on the Blue Moon, the Third Moon of Esha. These people were the faenen, who under the guidance of their proud ancestors had won their racial independence from the two races that gave life to their own. Of course, very few not among them were quick to call them anything more than the offspring of half-breeds, though. Especially mankind.

Ironically, however, the nelri were more tolerant of their identity, which lead to an openness between them over technological advances in spacefaring. Such caused a political rift with the nations of man that ruled over the worlds they called home, causing concerns so dangerous that the spiritual leaders of the faenen conferred with one another over the possibility of searching for a new world to colonise for sake of their people’s future; an ideology that soon lead to fostering a greater friendship with the nelri. It was only a matter of time till their collective interests saw them working together, under the guise of deep sea research upon the Blue Moon; the supposed birthplace of the Vessel of Faith.

This divine symbol is an image of that time where the faenen, much like the nelri, were well known for their strong spirituality. There was, however, much more behind this design than what humanity originally fathomed, as symbols like these not only helped identify one’s faith in the Creator but some were also built around ancient map-making technologies that dated back before the Fall of Man. Because of this, especially for the rarest ones, symbols like these were created by the faenen to store holographic data of entire star systems, or the ‘heavens’ as some called it. Those faenen who travelled aboard the Vessel of Faith were said to be the first owners of these symbols, and it was through them that they stored knowledge of their travels to be passed down secretly to their entrusted future descendants, long after they colonised worlds far beyond humanity’s reach at the time...

This information naturally would prove priceless to anyone who could obtain it. Such was the case for Kaden, whose faenen ancestry saw him inherit one in his youth. Yet whether or not its centre jewel holds the navigational powers found in similar creations, he nonetheless treats it with devoted care, it being a symbol of his people's faith, and has so far managed to hold his tongue from telling Sinaa that what he possesses could be as valuable as a secret intergalactic treasure map she would probably find at least some temptation in wanting to snatch from him and journey off alone with it. Not that he would blame her when it could be a treasure map leading to riches beyond any mortal’s wildest dreams. The question is does he even know how to access such information within it...?

I know... last month was possibly the worst ever for me in terms of being creative, yet hopefully it’s just a phase that’ll be buried as this month progresses. And as for this, I’ll admit some good news in that I’ve found renewed strength in my Christian faith on certain issues I was struggling to cope with, so you could say this art is in reflection of that. ... that and some inspiration from a classic cartoon show I’ll always have fond memories of. And special kudos to anyone who knows what that is, from managing to decipher a part of this symbol's design from it. (Which I sincerely doubt anyone will. XD)
