DUNE - Part 2

3 min read

Aye, I'm a few weeks late but I prefer my cinema experience nice and quiet with as few butts in seats as possible. That and this was the first film I was willing to pay for what is known to locals as the Gold Room. ... let's just say I didn't regret the decision given DP2's run time.

... that said, it's a shame I'm not made of money. Those seats are incredible. x_x

There's a lot of talk about Zendaya being the weakest link among the cast and while I can agree to a point this is true I looked past it to enjoy an otherwise brilliant accomplishment, bringing to life a story few succeed with. As someone who has been a Villeneuve fan since the oddly divisive Blade Runner sequel, there's not much to fault here. The sound design is out of this world and the cinematography alone SHOULD be hailed among sci-fi's greats.

That said, there's also been talk about it being on par with Jackson's Lord of the Rings? Nah. Sure, there's elements here and there that do just that but let's not kid ourselves. Perhaps, one could say it's on par with the Star Wars Original Trilogy instead? I know I'm willing to say that despite it suffering on occasion whispers of modern day girl power. This is probably where most criticism is laid towards Zendaya's performance as Chani. Aye, I'm aware her character from the books is far different and that Part 2's ending shows this in spades...

Still, it didn't ruin my love for the film. Bardem as Stilgar was a certain fav among the cast yet if one were to ask me who I thought was the most captivating/intimidating among them? That honour would go to Paul's mother, Jessica. Holy Hell, does Ferguson nail that role. Seriously, every scene she was in was a highlight for me. Even more so than the lead antagonist who was great, too, btw! Butler made a GREAT Feyd-Rautha. The best yet.

Again, I think a lot of my love for this film is how alien it is and this was especially evident involving every scene with Giedi Prime. Even the fireworks there captured my imagination. It reminds me what true escapism is and makes me thirst for Dune's third installment.

Oh, right. And Chalamet really is the perfect Paul. At least perfect enough in my eyes! ... okay, maybe not THAT perfect to demand gay poetry. WTF, Brolin? Haha.

... managed democracy, that is!

Interesting fact. I only bought Helldivers 2 in support of the devs having a zero tolerance policy against modern day politics. Sure, it was on my radar before then but I intended to wait for it to come on sale before committing. Hey, I appreciate folks having a spine and, given the latest controversy exploding around a certain infant, it reminded me why I have a hard time enjoying anything nowadays, no thanks to outfits like it and those they represent.

Needless to say, HD2 is perhaps one of the most fun games I've played in years.

Remember when games were meant to be fun? An escape from reality? Remember when we could put our troubles aside and immerse ourselves in galaxies far, far away from what often divides us in this age? That's the feeling I got the moment I dived into HD2 and it's been an incredible experience for the most part. Yes, it's not perfect, yet the gameplay is addictive and I can't get enough of the universe's setting. That and its tutorial is perhaps the greatest tutorial in the history of tutorials! Really sets the mood. Same with the opening cinematic.

So, yup. A definite recommended from me. I'm doing my part! =D

Fortunately, things are getting better... I think?

Lost my best boi in Jan. (RIP Piper...) Lost another dog shortly after, (RIP Jet), and not long after that the bore pump gave up the ghost and so the house/property has been without running water for the past week. And then, yesterday, our oldest dog, Barnsey, passed away.

Needless to say, I haven't exactly been in the best mood to create of late... On the bright side, the taps are finally running again, so I look forward to taking a long shower tonight while wondering what else this year has in store for me. ... yay? x_x

Rest in peace, Piper. Bestest boy ever. I will forever miss your boundless joy, how your eyes brightened whenever you saw me. How perfect you were on a lead whenever I took you for walks and how your zest for life was infectious. How you practically tap danced in your cage as you waited for food, how it annoyed mum to no end yet made me chuckle with delight.

How every time I ecstatically called you 'Boyo!' was my way of saying how much I loved you.

I will forever regret I was never able to get you to the beach like I promised. I should have spent more time with you. I should have been there when the blasted snake first bit you. Damn it all.
